Mini Professors is a science programme that has been designed specifically for 2 to 5 year olds, aiming to make science classes fun and enjoyable for pre-school children. The Mini Professors team are passionate about science and aim to inspire a generation.
Being a Mini Professors Class Leader is an amazing opportunity. It is a part-time job, incorporating some set working hours teaching classes with the preparation time being arranged at your convenience to fit with your family life.
The classes you’ll teach introduce children between 2-5 years old to the wonders of science. You’ll have the opportunity to share this learning experience with the children and parents. It is rewarding to see how the children’s faces light up during the experiments and how they absorb all your words while you walk them through the different science topics.
As a Class Leader you will deliver planned activities according to written pre-lesson plans. You will be required to set up and pack away equipment before and after each day of classes.
The job is great fun, but requires a high attention to detail and excellent organisation skills in order to make the classes a success.
Full training, support and ongoing mentoring will be provided. There will be the opportunity to gain experience as a class assistant during August and early September, to give you an understanding of the program, session set-up and classroom management.
You will then attend 3 training days on 18th, 19th and 20th September at Mini Professors Head Office in Salisbury and the founder’s classes in Winchester. Upon successful completion of HO training you will begin leading lessons.
During the first 4 weeks of classes you will be assisted by the franchise owner, and your mentor, Emily, before taking on full responsibility for delivery of classes by the beginning of November.
Prior to training, you will earn £8.00 per hour as a class assistant. Once you have successfully completed HO training and are independently running your own classes you will earn £10-£12 per hour depending on experience.
You will be required to work teaching classes 40 weeks a year, during term-time. Your paid holiday entitlement will be taken outside of term time. Your salary for 40 weeks plus paid holiday entitlement will be annualised across 52 weeks.

Job Description & Person Specification:
- Post: Mini Professors Class Leader
- Responsible to: Emily Hellewell – The Franchisee
- Regular contacts: Mini Professors customers, venue contacts and prospective Mini Professors customers
- To effectively manage and enthusiastically run Mini Professors classes to an excellent standard ensuring customers are satisfied and engaged.
- Create a warm, friendly and relaxed atmosphere in classes that instils customer loyalty.
⦁ Run classes to an excellent standard ensuring key scientific information is explained according to pre-written lesson plans
⦁ Build relationships with the parents and children
⦁ Have an excellent understanding of Mini Professors and it’s benefits to pre-schoolers
⦁ Prepare lesson plans in advance of teaching, including practicing experiments where necessary and learning scientific content
⦁ Collect and familiarise yourself with equipment prior to the lesson and return after the week’s classes
⦁ Ensure equipment is clean and presented to a high standard
⦁ Ensure allocated Mini Professors classes are fully staffed, and where sickness occurs, that at least 24 hours’ notice is given wherever possible
⦁ Keep an up to date register of attendees at classes using the GEMA online system
⦁ Complete and maintain a record of the Risk Assessment for every class
⦁ Proactively promote Mini Professors both in a class environment and at other suitable opportunities
⦁ Come up with suggestions to improve lessons and feed into key decisions about the business such as opening or closing classes
⦁ Verbally discuss renewal options with each customer, and follow up those who have not confirmed renewals
⦁ Following communication from Franchisee, to have a good awareness of current class numbers for Baby Sensory in order to guide and advise current customers wishing to renew
⦁ Regularly update Franchisee about equipment re-ordering or breakages
⦁ Proactively promote birthday parties to current customers in class
⦁ Actively promote merchandise for sale, where applicable
⦁ Regularly update Franchisee about any payments, renewal or any other relevant information passed onto them during class
⦁ Run Mini Professors parties as and when the Franchisee is unable to
⦁ Inform Franchisee of relevant equipment that needs to be purchased or made/substituted, ready for upcoming classes
Required Outcomes From Post
Success in this post will be measured by:
⦁ Successfully pass 3 days Mini Professors training with head office
⦁ Formal assessments by Mini Professors
⦁ Number of renewals
⦁ Number of conversions from taster sessions
⦁ Able to travel to venues in the East Bristol region
⦁ Available to run classes on Mondays and Thursdays plus complete 2 hours of lesson preparation at home (total of 10.5 hrs per week)
⦁ GCSE Science or an equivalent
