Free/Cheap Half-Term Fun in Bristol for Kids: Sat 27th October – Sun 4th November

October 2018 half-term is looming so here are some ideas of free (or cheap) child-friendly fun events and activities taking place across Bristol.

From Saturday 27th October until Sunday 4th November there’s a Scary Door Trail, arty crafty fun, LEGO sessions, storytelling, bread-making, Halloween events, a free film afternoon and lots more.

Blaise Scary Door Trail: Blaise Castle House Museum
A trail of tiny magical fairy doors hidden around the museum’s wonderful rooms and eccentric collections. Children can discover secret worlds hidden behind the miniature doors, all with a Halloween theme.

They will also love playing in the Victorian toy room, dressing up in costumes and looking at the museum’s treasures, followed by an ice cream afterwards!

Bristol Zombie Walk 2018: Bristol Harbour
A brilliantly gruesome annual spectacle with amazing costumes and make-up, with many families taking part or watching. The Zombies will meet at Fairbairn Steam Crane on Wapping Wharf at 2pm and will leave at 3pm for a grim procession around the harbour.

So grab the ketchup, get dressed up in your zombie attire and shuffle along!

It is asked that you do not bring your own refreshments to this event as the cafe is run by volunteers and the sale of goods in this cafe subsidises future free/cheap events at the hall.

Stories from the SS Great Britain: Markesbury Road Library
Voyage into a time of discovery with Brunel’s SS Great Britain. Families will be able to step into the shoes of people who travelled on board the ship. There will also be a display of images from the SS Great Britain’s return to Bristol in 1970 and voice recordings from the salvage.

Families will be able to discover the fascinating stories of passengers, brought to life through Victorian costumes, games – and even realistic smells! Come and join our storyteller Rosie on your own ocean adventure, with stories at 10.30am and 11.30am.

Fabric Africa Family Fun: Bristol Museum & Art Gallery

Mexican Day of the Dead: Bristol Museum
Come to Bristol Museum for its annual Day of the Dead celebrations – the Mexican festival where families gather to remember their dead. Create Day of the Dead crafts, add your memories and photos of loved ones to the colourful ofrenda (shrine), get your face painted and celebrate with music and dance.

Learn about traditional Día de los Muertos celebrations, join our craft workshops to make your own Day of the Dead mementos and take a selfie with La Catrina.

WWI Remembrance – A Story about Local Bristol Boys: Bristol Cathedral
An event suitable for children aged 10 years+ accompanied by an adult.

Come and say #thankyou to all who served, sacrificed and changed our world by listening to this inspiring talk by Steen Clark who will be retelling the story of WW1 as seen through the experiences of 32 former pupils of St John’s, Bristol.

This will be followed by some themed craft afterwards in the cathedral’s Chapter House.

Festival of Light: Trinity Centre
Trinity’s Free annual fireworks party with food and live music. The Festival of light celebration will be in the Trinity Garden followed by live music from the fabulous Bristol Reggae Orchestra and support from the amazing Dutchie.

Entry: Please note priority will be given to those with flyers which are used as tickets – these can be picked up from the Trinity Centre and local shops from mid October and 1 flyer can cover up to 4 people.
