Bristol Festival of Nature: Free/Cheap Fun for Kids this Weekend!


The Festival of Nature is back this year with lots of free/cheap nature-inspired special events for children and families!

The largest ever programme brings together the biggest natural history organisations in the region with a range of special events across Bristol and Bath from Friday 9th until Sunday 18th June. 

There are lots of fun free/cheap activities especially for kids in Bristol this Saturday. Here’s the line-up below:


SATURDAY 10th JUNE

Barton Hill Family Day
When: 10am-5pm
Where: University of Bristol Micro-Campus, Wellspring Settlement
Cost: Free
No booking needed, just turn up
Suitable for all ages

Discover a whole world of exciting green science at the University of Bristol’s community based micro-campus. Get hands on with some cool experiments and interactive educational games, and chat to environmental researchers from the university and Avon Wildlife Trust.

Bee Bold @ Heart of BS13
When: 11am-4pm
Where: Heart of Bristol Climate Action Hub, BS13
Cost: Free for under 5’s / £1 per child over 5 years

Suitable for all ages

Learn about the importance of pollinators at this nature-themed family event, including flower crown workshops, face painting and plug planting in a local nature area.

Lloyd and the Flies: Watershed
When: 1-2pm
Where: Watershed
Cost: Free
Booking needed
Suitable for 7+

Get behind the scenes with Aardman’s latest creation Lloyd of the Flies, starring Lloyd, a young fly with plenty to prove. With his best friend Abacus the woodlouse, Lloyd faces endless awkward, annoying and occasionally life-threatening situations. Series creator and director, Matt Walker, joins world renowned fly expert Dr. Erica McAlister.

Somerdale BioBlitz: Somerdale Pavilion, Keynsham
When: 12-3pm
Where: Somerdale Pavilion, Keynsham
Cost: Free

Suitable for all ages

What exciting nature can you find in Somerdale? Join the WaterSpace team who are working to improve the river corridor between Bristol and Bath and explore the site for wildlife. Learn how to use iNaturalist and practice your new skills, searching for and identifying nature.

Breathing Fire Present: Lyde Green Wildlife Theatre
When: 6-9pm
Where: Lyde Green Community Centre
Cost: £0 / £3
Booking needed
Suitable for all ages

Enjoy an exciting playback theatre performance by African women’s group ‘Breathing Fire’, all about local wildlife.
The actors will invite stories from the audience about nature connection, celebrating diversity and coming together to help the natural world.
