Parents looking for a fun, free, and educational activity for their kids this summer need look no further than Bristol Museum & Art Gallery.

Throughout August, the museum will host Story Box sessions—interactive storytelling events designed especially for young children aged 4-7.

Held every Wednesday during the school holidays, these sessions will run at four different times each day: 10:30am, 11:45am, 1:30pm, and 3:00pm.

Each session lasts approximately 20 to 25 minutes and is completely free to attend, although donations are welcome.

Located at Queens Road, BS8 1RL, the museum offers a warm and welcoming space for young visitors to explore stories that spark the imagination.

Led by museum staff and volunteers, Story Box sessions use puppets, cuddly toys, costumes, and beautifully illustrated picture books to bring each tale to life.

Each week features a different theme, ranging from dinosaurs and prehistoric creatures to animals from around the world and traditional stories from other cultures.

The sessions are inspired in part by the museum’s own collection, including a picture book titled Is That Doris?, illustrated by Tilia Rand-Bell, which draws from the fossil of a Jurassic marine reptile on display at the museum.

These drop-in sessions do not require booking, but all children must be accompanied by an adult.

Whether you’re local to Bristol or visiting the city during the summer break, Story Box offers a fun experience that blends storytelling with learning—and a chance to enjoy one of the city’s most beloved cultural spaces.
