I am always pleased to tell Bristol Mum readers all about fab new places to go in Bristol! Today Bristol Mum features Fishponds Play Cafe, a brand new play cafe which has just been launched in Fishponds, Bristol and which is aimed at parents, carers and childminders of babies and young children.
Fishponds Play Cafe is located at All Saints Church, Grove Road, BS16 2BW and offers a family friendly play space, cafe and party venue which includes indoor and outdoor play, a cafe with a good range of child-friendly food and snacks, plus additional daytime and after school activities.
I wanted to find out more about Fishponds Play Cafe and about the mum behind it so here is an interview with the mum behind it, Bristol Mum reader Gill Calloway. I hope you enjoy reading it.
Hi Gill! Please tell Bristol Mum readers a little about yourself.
I’m a Bristolian mummy of 4 year old twins who’ve just started school. I’ve brought together local women and 2 young people to help set up the Fishponds Play Cafe.
Our company Pondlife Community Interest Company (C.I.C) is a not for profit organisation which will be run by 4 local women with lots of experience of playing with children, supporting parents/carers, organising events and most importantly eating cake.
What inspired you to set up Fishponds Play Cafe?
With direct experience of struggling in the early days with looking after twins and post-natal depression to add, my inspiration is other parents and carers who all have good day and bad days, all need to get out of the house, chat to other parents or have ‘time out’. We will use any future profits to support families in a number of ways, maybe running an affordable ‘time out’ creche for example.
What is the aim of the cafe?
We want to be an inclusive, affordable, friendly place to bring your child or children, meet friends and find out what other things are available in the area for parents/carers – with help from Little Hayes Children’s Centre.
We also want to enable children to ‘play’ through their own style of learning ‘schema’ by working with Children’s Scrapstore and their Parents4Play Project.
What age is Fishponds Play Cafe aimed at?
0 – 4 year olds, plus any 5 year olds who aren’t yet in Reception Class.
Later we will also look into activities for older school children between 4pm and 5pm if there is a demand.
What activities and resources will you offer?
A cafe with healthy child friendly menu, including gluten free and dairy free options. A small lounge room useful for groups to meet, breastfeeding, creche or to run different activities.
An indoor inflatable PlayZone with ball pit, mini bounce, little slide and blowers. A baby and crawler area, Role Play/dressing up/trains/cars, Messy Play/Scrap Play/Loose Parts Play, a Forest School starting 7th October plus outdoor play and ride ons.
What are your opening times?
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9.30 until 3.00 p.m. We open on Tuesday 7th October and run until mid December including October Half Term, opening again in January 2015.
What are your entry prices?
