What’s on for Families this Weekend: 08/08/15 – 09/08/15

Happy weekend everyone, it’s going to be a good one! There are lots of great events and activities for children and families in Bristol this weekend. Here’s the line-up:

Saturday 8th August

Bristol International Balloon Fiesta: Ashton Court

  • 6am Mass Ascent – ‘Breakfast and Balloons’
    You can watch the hot air balloons take to the sky as the sun rises with a morning coffee and bacon sandwich in hand. Take in the serenity of an early morning surrounded by countryside as the balloons ascend into the bright blue sky
  • 6pm Mass Ascent
    If early mornings are not your thing, why not join us for the day enjoying lunch or afternoon tea, in time to see flypasts and secure a good spot to watch the evening ascent as the balloons lift off over the City of Bristol.

Europe’s largest free annual hot air balloon event. Lots of activities to enjoy.

Sheep in the Cathedral: Bristol Cathedral

Hidden around Bristol Cathedral are twelve Shaun the Sheeps waiting to be discovered. Follow the trail to work out the hidden message.

John King Boat Rides: M Shed

Take a trip on the harbour on the John King – a 1935 diesel tug built to tow cargo ships from Bristol City Docks to the mouth of the River Avon.

Wildlife Fun on the Farm: Lawrence Weston Community Farm

A free family fun afternoon of wildlife fun on the farm. Activities include pond dipping, mini beastie and bug finding and more.

Bugs & Beasties & Other Things: Troopers Hill

Join the Friends of Troopers Hill on a bug hunt to find some of the Hill’s smallest inhabitants. Experts will be on hand to identify your finds and the Bristol Astronomical Society will also be there to do some solar observations.

Pirates Ahoy: Tyntesfield

  • 10am – 4pm

Come and experience life on the ocean waves as Tyntesfield. Expect jolly roger japes and treasures to be found on this Pirate Trail. Shipshape fancy dress highly recommended for all ye scallywags.

The Green Treasure Hunt: Bishopston, Cotham & Redland

Build a Wild Animal Home: Dyrham Park

Join the Dyrham Park team and the Hedgehog Conservation Trust as we create habitat piles for hedgehogs and other animals like slow worms and wood mice.

Charity Summer Funday: The Eastfied Inn

Co-LAB: The Bear Pit

Today the Bear Pit will be used as a space to promote the artwork of local Bristol based artists and to celebrate the fact that the Bear Pit supports people to make a living out of their creative talents.
