Celebrating One Year of Freelance Mum: Bristol’s Networking Club for Entrepreneurial Mums

Freelance Mum

A former radio presenter from Bristol has celebrated her first successful year running Freelance Mum: the city’s first and only networking club for entrepreneurial mums.

The idea of Freelance Mum came about after the birth of Faye Dicker’s first child, Jemima. Faye, who used to be a presenter on BBC Radio Bristol, realised she was in the same position as so many new mothers who found it difficult to go back into full time employment and instead, wanted to set up their own business or freelance from home.

As well as setting up her own successful voice over company, Faye designed a series of networking events held in Bristol. Women are encouraged to come along to network and share ideas, building up confidence and contacts. They are also able to bring their own children along to take part in the day.

Faye said:

“Freelance Mum was born after having my children. I’d been a freelancer most of my working life, but a mum for much less. Suddenly I was in a new world- unable to make connections in the same way as I was restricted by childcare.

“If there wasn’t a community for freelance mums, then I’d just have to create one! We’ve had guest speakers including Rob Law, the Trunki Daddy & extended meetings for International Women’s Day. All have been designed to cater for both parents & children’s needs, in a business focused, family friendly environment. It’s nothing short of brilliantly bonkers!”

Client Katy Batt who runs the Holistic Therapy company, Contented Soul added:

“In the months that I have been attending, I feel I have built a firm network of some brilliant “go to” people and every session leaves me feeling inspired, supported and motivated. It’s like us each having our own group of cheerleaders egging us on!”

Freelance Mum’s next meeting is on Tuesday October 13th 10am – 12 noon at St Paul’s Church in Southville. The guest speaker is BBC Broadcaster & Skipper, Rob Salvidge, talking on: Why we need adventure & how to have it without ending up all at sea.

Tickets cost £7 + booking fee can be booked on the link below. Tea and cake is included in ticket price.
