Bristol’s Brilliant Archaeology
Saturday 23rd July, 11am – 4pm (drop-in)
A chance to find out more about Bristol’s brilliant archaeology along with a host of local history societies, re-enactors and field archaeologists.
The day will be packed full of fun, including tours, demonstrations, displays and archaeological activities.
Kids can also become an archaeologist for the day, have a go at geophysics, handle real artefacts and explore objects from some of Bristol’s most recent archaeological sites. They can also dress up and make a Roman gladiators helmet or an Iron Age collar to take home!
Children and families can take a tour to archaeologist Amelia Edward’s grave or Blaise Castle, have a go at a ‘mini excavation’, watch demonstrations by Roman soldiers and see a mini exhibition of paintings showing Roman Sea Mills.
Goram Fair
Saturday 30th July, 10am – 6pm (drop-in)
A community event and fun fair celebrating the legend of Bristol’s Giant Goram. There will be stalls, activities and rides on a vintage fun fair and much more.
Children and families can learn how Bristol’s landscape was changed by two giants in a Giant Outdoor Adventure at 11am and 2pm and also find out why there are giant footprints, a huge bath and a stone chair carved into the cliffs of Blaise Castle Estate.
Children and families can explore the world of giants and become giants themselves, creating a magical miniature city. You can play with giant games, listen to Bristol giant stories and find out how the giants Goram and Ghyston are said to have shaped Blaise Estate.
There will be a puppet show, walkabout entertainment from a magician and balloon modeller and watch a circus show!
These activities are ideal for children aged 5 – 7 but all ages can take part.
