Hooray, the weekend is finally here! If you are looking for ideas of fun things to do, here’s a list of what’s on in Bristol especially for children and families.

This weekend kids can become a warrior for the day, follow in the footsteps of Sherlock Holmes and solve a mystery, enjoy amazing magic at a magic show, enjoy culinary activities and crafts, get writing at a Creative Writing Workshop, go on a boat ride and more!

Warrior Weekend: Bristol Museum

  • When: Saturday & Sunday, 10am – 4pm (drop-in)

A chance to become a warrior for the weekend! Children and families can meet the Wulfheodenas Anglo-Saxon warriors and get up close to replica weapons and armoury with games and demonstrations. There will also be crafts, dressing-up, traditional board games and storytelling (storytelling sessions at 11.30am, 12.30pm, 1.30pm and 2.30pm).

Family Comedy and Magic Show: Smoke & Mirrors

A Family Comedy and Magic Show especially for families with children aged 8+ at Smoke & Mirrors, the UK’s Only Boutique Magic Theatre Pub.

From the moment you walk through the door to when you leave you can enjoy full-blown magical entertainment!

On entering Smoke & Mirrors you will be greeted by the in-house close-up magician who will bamboozle you with great drinks and other welcoming staff will be on hand to look after your drinks and food requirements.

At 4.15pm you will be invited to enter the Smoke & Mirrors 1920s-style theatre seating just 48; it’s cosy and the atmosphere is electric! The Smoke & Mirrors theatre host will seat you at your table and take your interval drinks for you.

Once all guests are seated the show starts at 4.30pm, with the Smoke & Mirrors resident compere guiding you with what you are about to witness. You will then be treated to 90 minutes of fantastic magic and comedy with two Smoke & Mirrors House Magicians!

Take a boat trip with a difference! Watch the powerful water cannon at work on Bristol’s former fire-boat on a trip round the docks that she was built to protect. Trips last approximately 30 minutes.

‘Children’s Storytelling Spiderweb’ Creative Writing Workshop: Spike Island

Do you want to learn to tell a story? An adventure story? A scary story? An animal story? Or something completely different?

In the Storytelling Spiderweb, you can tell your story and see it come to life as it is attached to the ever-growing web of tales. Pens, card and spiderweb are all provided – all you need to bring is your imagination.
