This September a new nature-based kindergarten for 3-4 year olds will be launching in Brislington, perhaps the first of its kind in Bristol.
At the Out There kindergarten children will spend 90% of the day of their day outdoors surrounded by green space and enjoy outdoor activities such as forest school, allotment visits, seasonal food sessions, workshops, local trips and plenty of wonderful nature-based play!
The new kindergarten will take place on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 9 – 3.30pm (though wraparound childcare from 8am – 5.30pm will be available on request).
Parents can book their child on for anything from 1 to 3 days and can use their government funded hours (either universal or extended hours) to pay for their child’s day.
Out There Early Years is an off shoot of Out There Bristol, a new joint venture led by Jenny Brough but collaborated by Ella Ives and Syama Wynn, who have both worked for Out There Bristol as Forest School Leaders.
Whereas Jenny is a primary qualified teacher, Ella and Syama both have experience in early years and they equally felt the time was right to pool their skills and experience to create something incredibly exciting and unique to Bristol.
As early years educators, they draw on their knowledge and understanding of Forest School principles and practises as well as Steiner, Montessori and Reggio approaches to early years learning and development.
Jenny, Director and Kindergarten Manager explains:
“I believe that children are naturally curious and self-motivated to learn. So what better place to develop this curiosity than outside the traditional classroom, in the natural environment. What better place to be self-motivated than in a place where you can run freely, climb a tree, dig a hole, scale a mudslide, turn over a log. My ethos for the Outdoor Kindergarten is for it to be the place where children are free to play, explore, imagine and wonder at their leisure.”
Out There Bristol also offers after-school clubs, holiday clubs and birthday parties.
