This Saturday families can set sail for Hartcliffe Library and voyage on a journey of discovery with Brunel’s SS Great Britain!
Stories from the SS Great Britain is a free event taking place from 11am – 2pm giving children the chance to learn about the exciting history of the SS Great Britain.
Children will learn about the people who travelled on board the ship through handling objects, Victorian costume and even smells from the ship to help bring these fascinating stories to life. There will also be fun Victorian games and craft activities!
Children’s author Sue Purkiss will also be at the library reading extracts from her book, Emily’s Surprising Voyage, which describes the exciting adventures of a young girl bound for Australia on board the SS Great Britain.
Families will learn about the SS Great Britain’s return to Bristol in 1970 and are invited to share their own stories about the ship and its return.
This event is free and runs on a drop in basis, just turn up on the day. You can find Hartcliffe Library on Peterson Avenue, BS13 0BE.
