Chipping Sodbury’s Medieval Weekend: Knights, Jesters & Falconry!

This year it is Chipping Sodbury’s 800th anniversary and to celebrate, the town is holding a special Medieval Weekend!

The free family event will take place on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th August and children and families can enjoy all kinds of fun medieval activities.

A tented medieval town will be built on The Ridings, Wickwar Road and medieval life will be relived with re-enactors giving demonstrations of long-forgotten trades such as candle making, blacksmithing and shield making!

A canteen will be built to show how food was prepared and cooked in medieval times and medieval herbalists and doctors will show how little they knew about medicine!

A Knights’ tournament will be re-enacted, and there will also be falconry, weapon-making workshops, medieval puppetry and archery experts.

The free family event takes place from 10.30am-4.30pm on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th, and on Saturday evening the celebrations will continue into the night with music, a hog roast, drinks and a fantastic fireworks display.

On Sunday there will be a costumed procession making its way from The Ridings and a handing over of the Market Charter will be staged by Sodbury Players on Broad Street.

There will then be a Medieval Big Lunch on Broad Street until 6pm with entertainment from jesters, jugglers and, maypole dancers!
