Fairfield High School celebrates national award for improved attendance

There’s some lovely news from Fairfield High School in Bristol, which has received a national award recognising the fantastic progress it’s made in improving student attendance!

The school has been named among the top 25% of the most improved secondary schools in England for attendance, according to FFT (Fischer Family Trust).

What makes this award particularly special is that it’s not simply about having the highest attendance figures. Instead, it celebrates the hard work and improvements schools have made to help more young people attend regularly.

And at Fairfield, it’s been a real team effort!

The school has been working closely with students and families to understand what might make attending school difficult for some young people, and how best to support them.

This has included investing in its attendance team, improving systems and introducing wellbeing support to help students overcome barriers and feel more confident about coming to school.

Edel Cronin, Principal of Fairfield High School, said:

“We’ve been working as a community to improve attendance, recognising the importance of understanding the barriers that may prevent students from attending. Through investment in our attendance team, systems and wellbeing interventions, we are providing the right support to help students take positive steps towards improved attendance.

“This is a real team effort, and our ambition remains to build on this progress, helping our students develop the confidence, responsibility and creativity to thrive as global citizens.”

Fairfield is keen to keep building on this success, continuing to work with families to make sure every student feels supported, included and able to make the most of their time at school.

A lovely achievement for the whole Fairfield school community – congratulations to everyone involved!
