Being a parent can be the hardest job in the world and we could all welcome some parenting advice and support from time to time.
The Partnership Parent offers parenting courses, resources and video tips to help parents to raise caring, respectful and happy children without the use of shouting, threats or rewards. It instead offers tools to build and maintain a relationship of deep connection, mutual consideration, compassion and trust with our children.
Here is a 60 video in which Alice Sheldon, the Bristol mum behind The Partnership Parent, explains how partnership parenting works.
A new Partnership Parenting Course is due to start this month in Bristol which will introduce mums, dads and carers to all areas of the Partnership Parenting approach. Parents can expect to come away with an understanding of how to apply the 3 step Partnership Parenting model to any parenting challenge so that you can build the relationship you want with your children.
How the material is structured is responsive to the needs of each particular group, but sessions usually run with the following pattern:
Week 1: A Partnership Parenting perspective on your relationship with your children
Partnership Parenting tools and framework overview
Making sense of your children’s behaviour – and your own
Week 2: Step 1 – What’s really going on for your children?
Understanding what emotional expression means
Recognising habitual responses to your children’s behaviour which block your relationship with them
Listening to your children so that they feel heard
Getting clear what your children really need
Week 3: Step 2 – What’s really going for you?
Understanding why you react to your children the way you do
Transforming the anger and guilt we can feel as parents
Shifting judgment and blaming of yourselves and your children
Alternatives to shouting or withdrawing
Week 4: Step 3 – What do you want to do about it?
Generic Partnership Parenting strategies:
Expressing yourself honestly in ways which make you more likely to be heard
Joint solution finding which balance our needs and our children’s
Setting and enforcing loving boundaries and when to use insistence
Week 5: Bringing it all together
Bringing the 3 steps together to give you a framework for resolving current and future challenges
The course is for parents and carers of children of any age.
