This weekend in Bristol there is an incredible line-up of events for children and families.

There’s a family film screening, storytelling boat tour and space adventure at Arnolfini, an Arts Trail in St Werburgh’s, a free family run around Kings Weston Estate, a celebration of food at Windmill Hill City Farm, steam train rides at M Shed, miniature train rides at Ashton Court and much more!

SATURDAY

We Are Family – Exploring Space: Arnolfini

Join Arnolfini, Bristol Children’s Scrapstore and @Bristol to travel through space, creatively exploring connections to Arnolfini’s latest exhibition by  Richard Long.

Drop into Arnolfini’s Light Studio to help Bristol Children’s Scrapstore to make space themed costumes and props ready for a parade! Dressed in your interstellar finery join in the procession over the river to @Bristol Science Centre.

  • 4.15pm – A chance for a limited number of families to enter the award-winning planetarium for free travelling  through space whilst learning about how the moon affects the tides.
  • 1-3.45pm – Drop in space costume workshop with Bristol Children’s Scrapstore in Arnolfini’s Light Studio
  • 3.45pm – Intergalactic Procession
  • 4.15 – Planetarium Show at @Bristol (tickets must be reserved in advance with Arnolfini Box Office. Suitable for ages 6+)

Join the Arnolfini team for a family friendly storytelling boat tour to the Flaoting Ballast seed Garden.

Join Cassandra Wye, international storyteller, on an amazing adventure to the Floating Ballast Seed Garden and discover the secrets skills of the plants hidden there. Plants can save your life – IF you know how!

Cassandra has created this magical blend of fact and fiction to bring the stories of the plants alive for all ages from 0 to 90. From miracle cures to marvellous inventions – meet the plants that have changed our world!

Free Family Film Screening: Arnolfini

A special U rated film screening just for families.  Come and relax in the Dark Studio, as Arnolfini takes you on an adventure through film to explore a particular theme or idea. This month the film is Flight of the Navigator.

An arts trail displaying the work of over  50 artists and crafts people at various community venues and homes around St Werburghs. There are also a number of workshops and activities going on throughout the weekend. The event is also on Sunday.

Come and see how people are making their homes more comfortable, cheaper to heat and kinder to the environment.

Visitors will be welcomed and shown round a range of open homes by our friendly householders who will share their knowledge and experience of installing a range of low cost to high cost measures.

Powder Paint Fun in the Park, fundraising for St Vincent’s, part of Julian House, which helps vulnerable men and women facing homelessness and dealing with addiction.

The Colour Fun Run is an un-timed 5km course where everyone finishes looking like they’ve gone head-to-head with a rainbow. It is the only charity Colour Fun Run where children of all ages can take part!

Kings Weston Junior Park Run: Kings Weston House

A 2K run for children aged 4 – 14 years around the beautiful Kings Weston House Estate. Lots of fun (I personally recommend it- my children and I had great fun!).
