A great new free family activity has recently been introduced in Bristol: the Kings Weston Junior Parkrun.
Held every Sunday at 10am at the lovely Kings Weston Estate, this is a volunteer- led, free 2K run for families with children aged 4 – 14. It is completely free for you and your children to take part; all you need to do is register on the Kings Weston Junior Parkrun website.
Don’t be put off if you are not used to exercise or if you are not fit, there is no pressure at all. You can go however fast (or slow) you wish; the Kings Weston Junior Parkrun is meant to be fun.
There is a great atmosphere on the Kings Weston Junior Parkrun from start to finish and the location is amazing.
The picture above shows the families and children gathering at Kings Weston House before the start of a recent Junior Parkrun.
The run begins with some warm-up exercises first…
And then, on your marks, gets set, GO – the run begins!
If your children should out-speed you and leave you legging behind along the way (like mine did – see photo below), this is not a problem; there are volunteers dotted along the route to ensure children and adults remain on course and are safe.
Following the run, if you are in need of some refreshments, there are lovely drinks, cakes and snacks at the Kings Weston House Café to enjoy.
My family has been on several Kings Weston Junior Parkruns since it first launched. My children are enjoying steadily improving on their time on completing the route each week as they become fitter and faster.
It is altogether a great way to spend a Sunday morning.
