What’s on for Kids in Bristol this Half-term!

DSC07627Should you be in need of ideas and inspiration of things to do with your kids this half-term in Bristol, this list of activities from Monday to Friday should be useful!

There are lots of kid-friendly activities and events this half-term including a Shaun the Sheep Vegetable Orchestra, a Teddy Bears’ Picnic, an outdoor screening of Bee Movie in Millenium Square, holiday club sessions with The Outdoors Project (think tribal survival day, Nerf gun battles and more!), family fun days at M Shed and Bristol Museum, pizza making at Windmill Hill City Farm and LEGOMANIA – an event especially for LEGO-loving kids in Bristol!

MONDAY 30th MAY

Train Rides on Bristol Harbour Railway

Steam train rides pulled by visiting locomotive, Judy. Trips last approximately 20 minutes.

TUESDAY 31st MAY

Nerfageddon – “All things Nerf including new blasters” with The Outdoors Project: St Andrew’s Park

Mini Ninja Warriors Assault Course – Back by popular demand, this timed and team challenge assault course returns with new obstacles: Balance beams, cargo nets, rope swings and ninjas!

Crafty Cathedral: Under the Sea!

A free drop in art and craft session at Bristol Cathedral for families. Make fishy creatures as we go under the sea! Free family trail also available.

The Magic Doors at Tobacco Factory Theatres

A theatre treat for children and families telling the story of three friends who are uncertain about an unusual boy they see in their street and so they decide to play indoors. Their games take them into some surprising worlds, sometimes funny and sometimes scary, as they travel under water, journey down creepy corridors and battle hurricanes.

Eventually they discover that friendship is the biggest secret of them all: even the strange boy in the street can be their friend.

The Magic Doors will be presented with Bombastic, a theatre company specialising in creating humorous, fantastical theatrical productions for young people combining dance and animation.

Walk on the Wildside at Horfield Common

Half-term nature activities for children of all ages with naturalist, Steve England. A chance to explore Horfield Common and find out more about the nature and wildlife that abounds through interactive nature activities such as bug hunting and pond dipping.

STREAM WALK with The Outdoors Project: Vassells Park/Oldbury Court

Stream walk through tunnels and down waterfalls. Scrambling, Rope Swing, Cave Hunting and pond dipping. This is a big day, for the most intrepid! Bring a change of clothes and boots/shoes that can get wet.

LEGOMANIA! Bristol: Brislington

There will be stacks of LEGO for creative building and rebuilding and lots of craft activities for children, also.

This event is mainly aimed at children of primary school age, but slightly older and younger (3+) children are welcome, too. Smaller siblings are also welcome, but as LEGO is not suitable for under-3’s due to the choking risk, little ones will need close supervision.

No need to pay for adults or smaller children who are accompanying the children taking part.

Free Screening of ‘Bee Movie’ at Big Screen Bristol

Pack a picnic (and maybe some honey sandwiches), a blanket/cushions and head down to Big Screen Bristol in Millennium Square, next to At-Bristol! Limited deck chair seating will be provided on a first come first served basis.

Den Building at Lawrence Weston Community Farm

APE Project will be here building dens in the paddock. The session will be a fun afternoon working together to make temporary hand-built shelters to play in. No previous experience necessary and all ages welcome.

Animate it! Creatures Under the Severn: Lawrence Weston Community Farm

A chance for children aged 5+ to work with an animator to discover the secrets of the River Severn, from its fish, crabs and creatures, to the mythical tale of Sabrina the goddess of the river. Places limited so sign up on the day for one of the 2 hour workshops.

Young Artists Workshop at Arnolfini

An art workshop for children aged 7 – 12 where they will be learning more about artists in the Arnolfini’s current exhibition, playing drawing games to learn about each other and making a mixed media piece of art.

THURSDAY 2nd JUNE

Tribal Survival Special with The Outdoors Project: St Andrew’s Park

Today is a Tribal Survival day. Tribes will need to think about Survival, Fire, Shelter, Food and Water, Protection and other tribal encounters. Make weapons, create flags, face painting and general Tribal shenanigans. Big swing, air toys plus circus fun too!

Teddy Bears’ Picnic at Bedminster Methodist Church

A picnic for children aged 2 years + with their family and favourite teddy. Each child will receive a beautiful basket to make into a bear’s bed. All art materials will be provided – please just bring a blanket and a picnic. Free refreshments.
