Redmaids’ High School pupils are climbing new heights thanks to a new playground officially opened last week at their junior school.
Guest of honour Jim Hayward of Mendip Outdoor Pursuits also cut the ribbon on a new set of classrooms at the all-girls independent school in Grange Court Road, Westbury-on-Trym.
Lisa Brown, Headteacher, said: “We have worked with Mendip Outdoor Pursuits for more than 30 years, together developing a love of adventure and outdoor learning in a whole generation of girls.”
Mr Hayward, who founded the company in 1978, said: “The great outdoors is the ultimate classroom, stretching us physically and mentally and delivering learning that is directly relevant to what is taught through traditional curricular subjects.”
The playground includes natural and artificial grassed areas for games, wooden climbing frames, a pirate ship, pagoda, tepees and a mini climbing wall, all surrounded by protective surfaces.
The new ground floor classroom opening onto the garden will accommodate a combined Year 1 and 2 group from September, while upstairs a similar sized classroom will house one Year 5 group.
Pictured alongside Junior School pupils are (far left and right) Tim Partridge and Mike Moxon (directors at Mendip Outdoor Pursuits), Mrs Brown (Headteacher) and cutting the ribbon Jim Hayward (founder and director at Mendip Outdoor Pursuits).
The next visiting event at the junior school is on Thursday 18th May. To book, call 0117 962 9451 or go to www.redmaidshigh.co.uk/admissions
