Introducing Sian Fletcher from FeelGood Fitness

If you are pregnant, have recently had a baby or are simply looking for some classes to improve your health, fitness and wellbeing, Sian Fletcher from FeelGood Fitness is on hand to help!

Sian is a qualified personal trainer and Pilates instructor, as well as a mum to two young children who offers bespoke personal training and Pilates classes specialising in post-natal recovery, pregnancy and general fitness in Ashton, Bedminster and Totterdown.

Sian’s journey to launching FeelGood Fitness all began at the age of 19 when, while working as a chef in a successful restaurant, she was diagnosed with Cushings Disease, a rare type of brain tumour.

Although the tumour was benign, it was situated on her pituitary gland and resulted in unpleasant symptoms such as high blood pressure, weight gain, stretch marks all over her body, migraines and depression.

The tumour caused Sian to gain two stone in weight and as she was unhappy with her appearance, she decided to join a gym with a friend. Sian sought advice and guidance from one the personal trainers which increased her confidence and enabled her to manage her weight and blood pressure. The same year Sian had the tumour removed and although it was successful, she was left with deep depression.

Over the course of one year and with the support from her personal trainer, family and friends, Sian regained her confidence and self-esteem. Following her own experience and struggle with her health, Sian decided to retrain as a personal trainer and use her experiences to help others regain their confidence and feel better about themselves, regardless of barriers or limitations.

She continues to to expand her knowledge and keep up-to-date with research in the health and fitness sector and recent training includes a Pelvic Girdle Pain workshop and diastasis recti course, while also working towards a Bachelor of Science through the Open University.

Sian explains how she helps others through FeelGood Fitness:

“My specialism in pre and post-natal and I have extensive training and experience working with new mums, trying to get back into shape following a baby but who have problems with their tummies and/or pelvic floor and/or PGP/SPD.

“Having two very young children myself I understand how hard it can be to fit it to your life, which I why I design my programs around you and your family and incorporate them into you daily life as much as possible.”

Sian keeps her classes small, limiting numbers to no more than 12, and her post-natal Pilates classes are even smaller and limited to 8. Mums are very welcome to bring their babies along to her post-natal class and daytime Everywoman course.

Sian’s classes are suitable for most people as she is always happy to adapt movements and exercises making them fit around the person rather than them having to fit to the exercise. The workshops look at everything from breathing to working up to some of the more advanced moves and classes are always fun and informal.

As well as classes, Sian also offers one-to-one and two-to-one tuition where you can really start to make progress with personalised attention. Again, babies and children are welcome and Sian does house or outside visits.

Sian is also holding a FeelGood Fitness Workshop on Saturday 3rd March at 12.15pm, which will concentrate on Post-baby abdominal and pelvic floor healing and a return to exercise workshop.

Sian explains: “In  the workshop we will be looking at what happens to your abdominals and pelvic floor during pregnancy and birth and how they can be restored through nutrition and movement. There will chance to get your tummy tested for any separation. We will then look at everyday exercises you can start to do at home to slowly build back up to your normal routine. Included will be a booklet with all the information covered. There will also be exclusive discounts to classes and private sessions.”

The workshop will be £20 and is being held at Flow Yoga Bristol, 16 Whitehouse Street, Bristol, BS3 4AY.
