Holidays & Weekends Away at Chapel Cottage in Mevagissey, Cornwall

Nestled in the heart of the village in a tucked away location, a short distance from the historic Mevagissey harbour is Chapel Cottage, an attractive double fronted, stone built house.

Once you have unloaded your car, you can happily leave it knowing that everything you need is within easy walking distance.

The Cottage
On the ground floor there is a lounge with a large corner sofa and a cosy open fire. There is a dining room with a farmhouse dining table that seats 6 and a quiet reading nook with armchair and desk.

This leads on to the modern, well equipped kitchen with a full size fridge freezer, dishwasher and microwave and all the cooking utensils and equipment you will ever need; there is also a family bathroom with walk in shower and heated towel rail.

Upstairs there are three bedrooms. A master bedroom with a king-size bed with top quality, pocket sprung memory foam mattress, luxurious duck down duvet and high quality linen with a double wardrobe and chest of drawers.

A twin room with a large wardrobe and another twin room with full size bunk beds are also on this floor. The bunk room has a TV and DVD player with HDMI cable so the children can bring their own Xbox or PlayStation and DVDs.

As well as a range of books, cards and board games there is free unlimited fibre optic broadband, Smart TV with Free view including Netflix, iPlayer, ITV Hub etc and a DVD player with plenty of DVDs to choose from.

Out the back of the cottage is a small enclosed courtyard, outside tap for washing off wetsuits or wellies, and a washing line. There is also space to leave your surf boards or canoes: most properties around the Harbour have very little, if any, outside space.

Chapel Cottage is within steps of the harbour, restaurants, bars, shops etc here you will find lots of seating which is where most people tend to go to sit in the sun, relax and watch the world (and the boats) go by!

Parking
Due to the central location of Chapel Cottage, and like most properties in the area, there is no parking space directly on the premises, however, you can unload your car in front of the house then park in one of two long stay car parks just at the end of the road and less than a minute’s walk from the cottage. There is Sunny Corner Car Park (the closest) or Willow Coach and Car Park (approximately 1 minute further away).

The Area
This delightful cottage is less than 200 yards from the distinctive twin harbour that provides a haven for the many fishing boats that land their daily catch.

Here you can purchase a variety of locally caught fresh fish. There are also boat trips and sea fishing trips available. For those of you into angling, there is a fishing tackle shop that also organises 2, 4 or 8 hour fishing trips.

If crabbing is more your thing, you can get all the supplies you need in the gift shop right on the harbour!

In and around the village you will find traditional pubs with roaring log fires, many great restaurants, shops such as Fat Face, Boots the chemist, cafes and of course, amazing fish and chip restaurants, along with galleries, gift shops and delicatessens.

With so many attractions such as the Eden Project and The Lost Gardens of Heligan so close by as well as several fishing villages, small coves and beaches for which Cornwall is famous for, Chapel Cottage is a great location for a special holiday whatever time of year.

A 30 to 40 minute (steep in places) stroll up the footpath or cycle trail at the back of the village, to the top of the valley, is the most visited garden in Britain and certainly one of the most interesting, The Lost Gardens of Heligan, where a visit is thoroughly recommended whatever time of the year.

Nearby
Close by, over the hill to the east, is the village of Pentewan with its large safe, sandy beach, together with a fine pub and cafes.

For walkers, there is the South West Coast Path that joins both Pentewan (approx 45 mins to 1 hour coastal walk) to the east and Gorran Haven (approx 2 hour coastal walk) to the west.

Cyclists are well-catered for with The Pentewan Valley Trail and the Heligan Trail. If you do not wish to bring your own bikes, there is bicycle hire in Pentewan. There is also a diving club here.

A ferry from Mevagissey to Fowey runs daily between Easter and September. Here you will find many small, independent shops selling unusual gifts, artwork, clothing and books. If you’re a foodie then Fowey is home to many bistros, cafés and restaurants where you’ll find menus offering the best in local produce – Fowey River mussels are a highlight.

The spectacular coastline, fabulous beaches and renowned gardens of the beautiful Roseland Peninsula are a short drive down the coast while Truro, with its shops, restaurants, theatre and cathedral can be reached by car in half an hour. St Austell with supermarkets, shops, shopping Mall (White River Place), St Austell Brewery visitor centre and cinema is just a ten minute drive away.

St Austell’s port is the lovely harbour of Charlestown with its shipwreck museum, here you will frequently see old sailing ships. The port has been used as a film location for numerous films and television series, such as Poldark and there is a small museum open during the season. The town is on the main railway and bus routes from London.
