Yesterday my children and I visited a telephone box library in Alveston. The traditional red phone box, long disused, has been remodelled into a quirky little library, with shelves full to the brim with books for children and adults!
This telephone box library is open on Fridays between 10am-12 noon, is free to use and run by friendly volunteers.
The idea behind the library is that you donate used books or magazines you no longer want, and take home some new ones of your choice. No registration is needed, nor are there fines for late returns!
When we arrived at the little library, there were books also laid out on the grass next to it. My daughter is an avid reader and was excited to see many Jacqueline Wilson books (her favourite author), all of which were in great condition. The library volunteers were really helpful and keen to help her find even more good books.
As for me, I found some magazines which I was very pleased with!
While we were there we donated some of our own books to the library which were gratefully received.
If you would like to find some good books for yourself and your kids, I recommend visiting the Alveston telephone box library one Friday morning!
You can find the library on Greenhill Road, Alveston, BS35 3LU.
Happy reading!
Is there a library with a difference where you live? If so, I would love to hear from you! Please email Hilary on bristol_mum@hotmail.com.
