Family-friendly shows at Tobacco Factory Theatres this Autumn/Winter

The days may be colder and the nights drawing in, but this Autumn and Winter there will be three wonderful shows to entertain children and families at Tobacco Factory Theatres in the brand new Spielman Theatre space and Factory Studio.

The shows include Princess Charming, a show which aims to challenge gender stereotypes in a fun way, Beasty Baby which includes a fusion of puppets and live music, plus the classic tale of The Borrowers which will set imaginations alight this Christmas!

Please find full details of each of the three shows…

Princess Charming presented by Spun Glass Theatre & Ovalhouse

  • Fri 02 – Sun 04 November, 10.30am & 1.30pm
  • Age recommendation 7+
  • Running time 1hr 15mins
  • Tickets £10

Some girls like football. Some boys like pink. Everyone likes a good story.

Exploring gender stereotypes in a fun, questioning way, Princess Charming is a celebration of being exactly who you are. This show is for anyone who doesn’t like being told what to do and is about finding the courage to defy expectations.

Spun Glass Theatre’s cabaret performers explore what really matters about being a boy and being a girl with dances, songs and skits created with children, for children.

The theatre will be transformed into a family friendly cabaret club full of laughter and sing-a-longs. At the end children and families will have the chance to join in too as we give over the stage to the next generation of cabaret stars.

  • Thu 6th December – Sat 6th January
  • Various daytime performance times (see website for more details)

The Borrowers, a Tobacco Factory Theatres production

  • Various performance times (see website for more details)

  • Running time 2hrs (inc. interval)

This Christmas the Factory Theatre transforms into a giant adventure playground to tell the charmingly irreverent story of The Borrowers, based on the much loved novel by Mary Norton.

Below the floorboards of a large house in Bristol, we are plunged into the quirky, wonky, miniature world of young Arrietty and her family of Borrowers. Making use of anything and everything they find ‘upstairs’, from cotton buds to crisp packets, string to Subutteo players, the Borrowers are the original up-cyclers.

However their quiet existence is torn apart by the arrival of a family of Human Beans and soon the quiet ticking of the grandfather clock is replaced by Hoovers, TVs and the sound of Tom Jones on the radio. Arrietty longs to see what life is like for the new family of giants and her friendship with the eight year old Eddie is the opportunity to do just that.

With an original script by Bea Roberts (Little Mermaid, the egg) and directed by Nik Partridge (The New Adventures of Snow Mouse, Travelling Light), formerly Director in Residence at Tobacco Factory Theatres, this re-telling of a classic childhood favourite will set imaginations alight this Christmas.
