How To Make Your Own Natural Shea Butter & Almond Oil Moisturiser

I recently created my own natural shea butter & almond oil moisturiser and I thought I’d share the recipe with you too.  It’s easy to do and can be used on both your face and body; it feels beautiful on your skin, plus a little goes a long way.

I decided to make my own moisturiser for two reasons: to cut down on plastic and because I wanted to use something completely natural on my skin.  Hopefully it will save me money long-term, also.

I bought both the shea butter and almond oil on the internet, choosing products which came in glass bottles rather than plastic.

The only slight disadvantage of making your own natural beauty products is that you must be careful about bacterial growth; this moisturiser is probably good for 2-3 months maximum in an air-tight jar.

You can see from my photos below my finished product is not quite so beautiful as the professional image used above; however, I can assure you that it is wonderful to use!

Directions:

  1. Double boil roughly half a cup of shea butter by placing it in a bowl placed in a saucepan of boiling water on your stove until it has melted into a liquid.
  2. Add two tablespoons of almond oil, then take off the heat and put in the fridge for about 20 minutes or until it starts to harden.
  3. Take out of the fridge and whisk using a fork; you will notice within a couple of minutes it will have thickened considerably.
  4. Transfer into a jar (I used a couple of small jars including the one the shea butter came in), allow to cool and voila!
